Na dat de heruivoering over was hadden
wij nog een paar dagen in
Nederland voor ons vertrek terug naar Amerika.
Maar op maandag,
13 augustus
moesten wij eerst Anthony Jr. naar Schiphol brengen en onze gehuurde bus
inleveren. Toen gingen wij naar Hilversum met TV Omroep Max voor de
productie van de documentarie die in mei, 2008 uitgezonden zal worden.
Op weg naar de Efteling met de
kinderen op dinsdag, 14
augustus stopte wij voor de
nacht in Gorichem.
Op woensdag,
15 augustus
hadden wij een leuke dag op de Efteling.
Op donderdag,
16 augustus
naar Delft om nog wat souvenirs te kopen.
Op vrijdag,
17 augustus
inpakken en bij Riet Soeters op visite om te de laatste taken te
bespreken en om haar nogmaals te bedanken voor haar buitengewone
medewerken om de heruitvoering een succes te maken.
En toen, eigenlijk veel te vlug, op
zaterdag, 18 augustus
vroeg naar Schiphol voor ons vertrek naar huis.
Wat een verrassing! Daar vonden
wij een groep van nieuwe vrienden die wij op the heruitvoering hadden
leren kennen. Dat was een hele eer en werd zeer op prijs gesteld. |
After
the reenactment concluded we
still had a few days in the Netherlands before our departure back to
the US. But on Monday,
August 13, we first had to deliver Anthony Jr. and return our
rented bus at Schiphol . Then we went to the TV studios of OmroepMax in Hilversum to work on the documentary that is scheduled to be shown in May 2008 in
connection with the celebration of the liberation in 1945.
On our way with the "kids" to the Efteling theme park
on August 14, we stopped for the
night in Gorichem.
On Wednesday, August 15
we spent an enjoyable day at the Efteling.
On Thursday, August 16,
we visited Delft to shop, at the last moment, for souvenirs.
On Friday, August 17, it
was packing of suitcases and a visit to Riet Soeters to discuss the last
tasks and to thank her again for the outstanding assistance given to make the
reenactment a success.
And then, actually much too soon, on Saturday,
August 18, early in the morning to
Schiphol airport for our departure home.
What a surprise!
That's where we found a group of our newly found friends that we had
gotten to know on the reenactment. We considered that a real honor and
was much appreciated. |
| En nu het laatste
woord! De heruitvoering van de hongertocht was een succes voor
verschillende redenen. Maar voor ons, te samen met de herdenking van de
dappere ouders, broertjes en zusjes, en vreemdelingen die in de
originele hongertocht hadden gelopen, was de vriendschap en dankbaarheid
die ons door deelnemers aangeboden werd, het belangrijkste. Nogmaals,
onze hartelijke dank! Ton &

And now
the last word! The reenactment of the hongertocht was a success for
several reasons. But for us, apart from the remembrance of the brave
parents, brothers and sisters, and total strangers that took part in the
original hongertocht, we value most the friendship and thankfulness
bestowed upon us by the many participants and associates that assisted.
